Mountain bike trails in Les Gets
Les Gets bike park, Chavannes, Nauchets and Mont Chery mountain bike trails
MTB trails and bike park skills areas in Les Gets.
The long high speed six man (two bike) Chavannes Express gives access to the trails on this side of the valley with a selection running back to its base and others heading down to the Nauchets Express or back to Morzine.
The three km La Roue Libre red descent is the ‘go to’ trail for high speed sections, big berms and a selection of various sized table tops (with chicken lines past them if you’re not up for tackling them or it is your first run and just want to check them out).
Recent changes:
- The top quarter now has a blue alternative named ‘Tomahawk’ which boasts twenty back to back table tops and some well formed berms.
- The jumps are relatively consistent size and are the perfect place to hone your skills in the air.
- Running along a hillside, the drainage on this trail should be good, helping keep it’s shape over summer.
The second quarter has seen some work too, with new drainage and slight layout changes. A few berms have been removed to help improve flow and in the lower part of this section five new large berms have been added and shaped to perfection. The new drainage should hopefully see them remain this way too. The lower half remains much the same, large berms, fast trails, a small jump park (with some new additions) and then the famous bottom section berms that can be viewed from the lift line finishing off the route.
There also are a couple of green and blue tracks that come down on this side that are more family friendly.
The jump park area down to Nauchets Express has not changed much with the notable exception of the berm gap jump at the very top which sees gathers crowds above it. Also running from this lift are a selection of flowing red and blue grade wooded tracks with gaps, berms, woops and North Shore keeping all levels happy.
Across the valley from the Chavannes Express lies the Mont Chery bubble. From the top of this a black downhill brings you quickly back to the bottom through steep berms and gap jumps. A new North Shore jumps park starts from the same point called ‘Gets Airline’. This is only for experienced riders and flows down the mountain via a selection of large table tops, step-downs, drops, gap jumps and is keeping the advanced riders on their toes!
Alternatives, which include some pedalling, are descending the ridge line from the Mont Chery summit down to Mont Caly. This trail has a combination of rock gardens, tree route sections and fast ruts near the top. From Mont Caly traverse the trail to Encrenaz and onwards to the ‘Dangerous trail’ to bring your full circle back to the Les Gets side of Mont Chery.
If you fancy yourself as a dirt jump king then try the Les Gets Jump Park. Moved in 2008 from Mont Chery over to the Nauchets bowl, you can access it via the Chavannes and Nauchets Express chairlifts. There are lots of jumps, berms, whoops and the helter skelter to try your hand at. In 2014, the trail builders went big and built a huge jump, with a smaller on to the side of it, on the Mont Chery side of the valley (see pictures above). Warning.. it's not something everyone can tackle!
Mountain bikers can record their own personal video, located in the Mini Jump Park at Chavannes on the Gibannaz plateau, this video zone allows you to film yourself on the different modules (for free) and then watch your performance on your phone and internet and share it on social networks.
There will also be a kids zone set up in the village centre at the Place de la Mairie. It's great fun and open to riders of all levels, it's also great to look at with its 100% wood construction tracks. The zone can be used at any time and grass-riders can enjoy regular, free beginners sessions, pump track races and night riding sessions with music.
The coaching track is a new addition developed by multiple World and European downhill champion Fabien Barel. It comprises of a succession of modules built along a mountain bike route where riders can work on a specific MTB techniques such as breaking, jumping, taking raised corners. Each module is equipped with a video explanation provided by Fabien Barel. The coaching track is on the ecureuils green trail in the Chavannes area.
