48 Hours in Morzine

Breakfast

You don’t have long in town, so on your first day it’s important that you set your alarm early and get up at a decent time. You should then make a hasty dash for the best bakery in town for breakfast. The Bonbonniere on the Rue de Bourg is one of our favourite places. It’s lined with fresh cakes, bread and pastries. You can also get a really good cup of coffee and sit in shop to enjoy it. It’s essential you try a few things from here on your short stay including croissants, bacon bread and macaroons- so stock up. I advise getting yourself one of the lemon meringue cakes for later in the morning!

Take the lifts

From here head over to the main Morzine lift up the mountain, the Pleney which is accessible if you’re on foot or with a bike. Take the lift up to the top of the Pleney and walk or cycle towards Le Vaffieu restaurant where you’ll discover some of the best views of Mont Blanc in the distance. You can then either descend on a bike or by foot towards the Nyon plateau. It’s about an hour on foot but obviously a lot quicker by bike. You can then find some lunch at Inferno, a lively bar on the plateau or at the Pointe de Nyon restaurant. Inferno often has live music and special events on so it’s a great place to go to soak up some holiday atmosphere. The burgers are pretty good too.

If you’re tired, you can hop in the Nyon telecabine down the mountain or if you’re still feeling spritely, it’s about another hours walk back into Morzine. The trails are perfect for downhill biking as well if that’s how you’ve decided to get around. You’ll pass the beautiful Nyon cascade on your way, which is well worth a visit. The walk back to town runs alongside the river, which is brilliant if you’re visiting Morzine on a hot day it’s shaded and cool. Dogs will love it too.

Time for a drink

By the time you’ve reached Morzine you’ll most certainly be deserving of a cool, refreshing beverage. We suggest a late afternoon drink at the Coup de Coeur (they give you great nibbles with your drinks as well). It’s also only 5 minutes away from Morzine’s amazing cheese shop - l’Alpage is full of local cheese, sausage and other specialities. It’s a great place to pop to grab a souvenir or a slightly stinky present or two.

Time for dinner

After all of this walking and shopping you’re bound to be a bit peckish by now? We suggest trying a traditional Savoyard fondue at a restaurant like the Rotonde or La Flamme, After all, tomorrow is going to be another busy day.

Day two - to the lake!

On your second day you have to head to the beautiful Lac Montriond. If you’re feeling energetic you can walk, cycle or run there from Morzine via the woodland path. Then, if it’s a hot day, why not join the triathletes as they have an early morning training swim in the crystal blue waters, or give paddle-boarding a go. After you’ve cooled off, we suggest heading up the mountain a bit to experience the goat village. Lindarets comes alive in the summer with thousands of goats! Children and adults alike love the experience of feeding the alpine animals that are more than happy to come right up to you for food.

Head to Switzerland

From here you can head to the Mossettes lift on foot or by bike and travel into Switzerland for an afternoon of exploring. The Cookie Café at the top of the Mosettes lift is the perfect spot to stop at for a bite to eat. It boasts incredible panoramic views of the whole Portes du Soleil (PDS). You can then either walk the ridges or cycle along the miles of tracks and trails that spread out across the area. The network of lifts will take you back towards Avoriaz where you can catch the Prodains telecabine back to Morzine. Discover the area with maps.

Apero drinks

You’ll be just in time for late afternoon/early evening drinks at Chez Roger's. Complete with complimentary nachos and extreme sport on TV, it’s a great place to finish up both in winter and summer. It’s also directly opposite the fast food restaurant, Mammas. Mammas, admittedly isn’t quite as high end as the Rotonde or La Flamme but it does some really amazing food like wraps, pizzas and burgers and after a day in the mountain air, this will be just what you need! After all of this, if you’ve still got some energy left, it’ll be about cocktail hour at The Aubergade…go on - you are on holiday after all!

It’s near impossible to encompass all the amazing things Morzine has to offer into just 48 hours. Other things to look out for while you're here are the swimming pool, the summer luge, the many amazing creperies, the tree top adventure for children, white water rafting, canyoning: the list goes on.. You’ll just have to come and stay for longer or come back again!
