Le Rocher Restaurant Review
Restaurant and pizzeria not far from the centre of Morzine
This lovely quaint restaurant sits directly opposite the clock tower in Montriond with stunning views of Morzine and the surrounding valley.
It has a wealth of seating outside the restaurant allowing you to sit and dine in the sunshine or on the pretty garden terrace whilst looking out across the valley. We were greeted with a very warm welcome from the owners when we arrived for a mid-week lunch, keen to show us their mix of different menu’s and choices. It’s quite unique in the sense that the restaurant itself is a traditional alpine bistro with beautiful wooden tables and pretty settings but is attached to a take away pizza place, which is also very popular with locals. Needless to say there is plenty of pizza on the main menu!
It has all the dishes you’d expect on a traditional Savoyard menu, from tartiflette to meats, fishes and salads, offering both lunch and dinner set menus. At lunchtime you’re looking at around 15€ for a main course pizza or salad and a pudding. On this occasion we opted for salad without the pudding (for one euro difference, you may ask why?!) as we didn’t want to overdo it, but the salad was more than filling. Our order was taken quickly and the food didn’t take long to arrive. We both opted for the salade de chevre (goats cheese salad) and it was certainly satisfying enough to last us the whole afternoon.
Served on a tasty base of tomatoes, leaves and fresh mushrooms, with a yummy honey dressing, it comes with about five large servings of cheese on little bruschettas. It was the perfect size meal for two people needing to get on with lots of jobs and errands in the afternoon! If you fancy something a little more filling, the evening menu offers three courses for 36€ including mussels, beef and salmon on the starter list, perch fillets, tartiflette and ribs on the main menu with a wide selection of puddings. Similarly the drinks menu is quite varied so if you’re looking for a soft or hard beverage there’s plenty to choose from.
We opted to sit outside for our meal because we were lucky to have warm, sunny weather. It’s perfectly OK to take your dog if it’s well behaved and there’s plenty of space around tables to give you privacy. Inside the restaurant there’s also plenty of seating. It’s decorated in a very traditional alpine way with wooden beams and tables, red napkins and a busy well stocked bar, making it the perfect winter haunt as well as an ideal spot in summer.
Le Rocher is open every day and isn’t shut for that long during inter-season. It prides itself on being open tout l’annee! We had a really lovely hour or two and the food is very reasonably priced. Well worth a visit if you find yourself a little out of the centre of Morzine and are looking for some late afternoon summer sun.
