Satellite Coffee Cafe Review

Satellite, named after one of the Portes du Soleil's favourite off piste runs, prides itself on using organic produce, generating minimal waste and being environmentally friendly. It's also very conscious of food intolerances so if you're gluten free or have a problem with dairy, the team are always happy to help you out. 

There's always an amazing choice of cakes on display with a really adventurous mix of flavours and designs. I'll get to how tasty they are in a minute!

Satellite is great if you just want to pop in for a coffee and a piece of cake but it's also great if you're looking for a bigger feed and want a break from rich French cuisine. It serves bacon and egg baps in the morning and then sandwiches, wraps and pittas over lunch time. There are also freshly made quiches, soups and salads if you're looking for a smaller bite. We popped into Satellite as the season came to an end this year as a special treat which meant we were up for giving everything a bit of a go!

I ordered the special of the day which was halloumi in a pitta with spinach and tzatziki. We also had a side salad and some quiches between us. We all tucked into some amazing frothy coffees whilst we waited for the food. I can tell you from plenty of experience that the hot chocolate in Satellite is well worth trying! There is also an amazing choice of coffees and teas to choose from. The chai is a firm favourite. It's made from fresh chai leaves, rather than a powder or syrup which makes it different to normal and a lot less sweeter. It was pretty quiet in the restaurant on the day we went, which meant the food arrived pretty quickly.

After a halloumi drought (they don't sell it anywhere in Morzine) I was very excited about my food! And I wasn't disappointed. The cheese was cooked perfectly and the spinach and salad was fresh and tasty. There was also plenty of it and they were very generous with their quantity of cheese. The others were really happy with their quiches as well- I'll certainly be going back to try a slice or two when the cafe reopens in the summer.

We were planning to settle up and head home when a freshly baked cake was brought out from the kitchen to put on the front desk. We quickly changed our mind and decided to stick around for a bit of pudding. It was a delicious apple and cinnamon cake and it was still warm. The size of the portion was easily enough for two. Somebody is certainly a good baker behind the scenes at Satellite! We also tried the amazing chewy cookies and milkshakes which turned our initially healthy meal into a gluttonous delight! 

For two of us, having a sandwich each, a drink and a slice of the delicious cake, the bill came to around 25 euros. So it's also a really reasonably priced place for lunch. It's also something unique and different to the normal food offering in Morzine. The menu is always changing at Satellite so it's well so worth popping in now and again to see what the latest specials are. I'm looking forward to seeing what the team come up with next and we'll certainly be making it a regular lunch haunt. My one piece of advice...make sure you leave space for cake!
